Scope & ContentThe collection includes project and program files, correspondence, conference materials, publications, reports, maps, architectural plans for the Yolo County Agricultural Building, and aerial photos from the Cooperative Extension Service. The bulk of the records cover the 1930s through the 1950s, and contain information on crops, livestock, agricultural pests and diseases, farm labor issues (including prisoner of war labor during World War II and the Bracero Program), water and irrigation issues, and 4-H programs. The Agricultural Cooperative Extension Service was formally established in 1914 by the Smith-Lever Act, partnering land-grant institutions such as UC Davis and federal, state, and county government to support agricultural research and education. Warren D. Norton (1881-1958) served as Yolo County Farm Advisor from 1919 to 1956. Norton Hall is named in his honor.
