Beta Sigma Phi International (ΒΣΦ) is a noncollegiate sorority that was started by Walter W. Ross and Leona Schroers in 1931 in Abilene Kansas. Initially the group was a chapter of The National What to Read Club founded "for the social, cultural, and civic enrichment of its members." Schroers introduced Ross to Sally Rogers McSpadden, who was active in the Oklahoma Federation of Women's Clubs and other women's organizations. McSpadden advised Ross to change the organization and create a new framework for the organization. In 1932, the Beta Sigma Phi club was incorporated under a charter granted by the state of Missouri. The club's moto is "Life, Learning and Friendship" and club activities are generally social in nature. Members present and attend concerts, exhibitions, lectures, plays, etc. -
