Aqua velveteen upholstery with 15 buttons on the back. Walnut with burled walnut panels applied. Back is rectilinear. In center of back rail is slightly curved pediment form, topped in center by simplified foliate crest. The back top rail also has 4 burled panels, simple strips with slightly curved indentations at each end to echo the shapes of 3 simple circular bosses which separate them. The ears are squashed-looking volutes. Each side rail has simple burled applied strip. Apron, which curves out very slightly towards the center, has 2 narrow burled strips with in-curved ends towards the center where they flank a plain boss. The arms curve slightly outwards. One flat piece forms the front leg and the arm support. The burled panel echoes its curving forms, and at each end of it is one circular boss. There is also a drop from the down curving end of the arm support. The back legs are plain cabriole. Wooden casters on all 4 legs. History: Donor calls this furniture Eastlake and dates it 1891. (Kocher: but there are probably more Renaissance Revival features: burled panels, curved pediment, bosses.)
