Sink strainer - Triangular aluminum, 3-footed receptable with numerous drain holes. Straight sides 8 1/2" long, curved side 10 1/2", depth 2 7/8" History: Before garbage disposal machines were common, the sink strainer sat in the kitchen sink and was used as a holder for peelings, rinds, bones and coffee grounds waiting to be taken outside to the garbage barrel. A good housewife emptied the sink strainer onto several thicknesses of newspaper and rolled the garbage up in the newspaper before taking it out to the garbage can. Farm homes often gave peels and rinds to chickens or animals.
