[nb-NO]Description[nb-NO]
Original print from Godey's Fashions for February 1868. One lady is dressed in a bridal gown. One is dressed in tan (faded) with a reddish underskirt, one in beige and aqua. The lady to the left wars a black gown with faded teal sleeves and edging of skirt. Small boy in front not tinted. Bride wears circlet with aqua flowers inserted. One fold 1/3 in from right edge. Plates were often cut from magazines and used as fashion guides by ladies of the day. Godey"s Lady's Book was published from 1830 to 1880. The covers were lithographed and handpainted by various ladies. The colors on the covers could vary according to the painters' wishes. Godey once commented that he had 150 women working in their homes to apply the watercolor to each plate. Value about $5.00. These plates were used by women to design clothes for themselves; seamstresses often mounted these prints in their shops so their customers could see the latest fashions. See special Reference binder in computer room.
