Jacobean style, carved rosewood and splat upholstery, red brocade trefoil repeat pattern. Wooden casters, coil springs and burlap seat construction. Mahogany wood with tapestry. Legs and stringers are spool or turned type, end in finials, splat is upholstered front and back with red brocade and one across the center. Wood piece on front and sides has a beaded decoration Research: American Heritage, "History of Antiques" from Revolution to Civil War, page 266, Illus Page 267 (picture of similar chair). Card found with chair "Spool or Beaded Chair. This type was brought from Norway by a Baltimorean in the diplomatic service, in the 1850's; Baltimore was about the only place this type was made.
