Jacket. Ornate black satin with ecru lace, moire and jet buttons. Has handmade button holes, straight band down front with white lace ruffle on top. All edged with round jet, cut buttons. Another portion of closure are 4 double satin bands spaced down front and finished with 6 loop bows in black and ecru satin that have hook fasteners inside. Front collar is in the form of a jabot of full black and ecru lace. Across back is double satin and a straight collar lined around edge with jet buttons. Sleeves are tight with black and ecru lace ruffled cuffs. Pleated black satin and bow of black and ecru satin decorate wrist with a row of jet buttons where the satin and ruffle join. Back of the jacket is plain black satin, fitted and boned to waistline, then falling into 3 petal like points, weighted and outlined in jet beads. Lining is purple satin with 9 black covered stays and wide tape fastened to the back to hold garment securely at waist. History: Owned by Elnorea Gibson married to Robert James Gibson about 1883.
