Shell shaped wire frame covered with gathered black net, scalloped black lace ruffles start at crown and continue around over top of head and stand up forming back ground for 3 sprigs of green, wheat-like flowers and stems, in back of flowers are 2 double, velvet black bows. Fastened to back is a pin made up of leaf-like black jet pieces, black net ties are fastened to bonnet front. net, lace, velvet, wire. History: Nancy Root's bonnet about 1860s Donor states bonnet belonged to Nancy Root and was worn about 1860.
