J. Neil Rutger (1934-2024) was born in Illinois. After serving in the army, he studied agricultural science and later joined the USDA in Davis as a rice geneticist. After serving as director of the Dale Bumpers National Rice Center, Neil and Peg moved to Woodland. Peg Kuyoth Rutger (d. 2023) was born in Wisconsin. Peg was a stained glass artist and home builder.
