William Gordon homesite in Fremont. Gordon, Yolo County's first non-Indigenous settler, built a home here (marked "A") in 1842. On this north bank of Cache Creek he set poles on end, filling the cracks with mud and made a roof of oak shakes. Location marked "B" indicates site of graveyard. Note on photo caption reads, "Rough, uneducated, honest and hospitable, his place was a rendezvous for settlers and hunters." Flat, plowed earth, oak trees in the background.
