Crest rail has shaped top with beaded band. Center has pressed wood decoration in oak with stylized vine scroll frame and acanthus leaf motif at two ends. The acanthus motif, in a larger and more elaborate form, and the beading also appear at the tops of the stiles. The lower part of the stiles curve under to form arms. They are flat, steam bent wood. Each arm is supported by 4 turned spindles and a metal bar. The 7 back slats are wide and flat and are sharply tapered at top and bottom. They are vertical. The seat is molded into a raised center ridge. There is a drop or apron under the seat front. It repeats elements from the crest rail: beading, vine scroll, and roughened background surface. There are 2 rails between the front legs( each rail has an extra turned design at the center), and 2 plain rails on each side and 1 in back. History: Donor attached a label and said it belonged to her Aunt Mabel (Mabel Griffis Woodard) and was about 100 years old. It is similar in style to rockers of oak with pressed wood decoration in the 1902 Sears catalog. Woodard, Mabel Griffis.
